Publishing Fraud Alert

At Scholastic, we value and support storytellers and we work with many of them to bring great books to children.

Sadly, we have learned that professional fraudsters are impersonating Scholastic with sophisticated scams that target writers (often self-published), illustrators and other professionals in the publishing industry.

These fraudsters represent themselves as publishers and seek payment from their targets in exchange for publishing their books or selling rights in the work. Payment is sought for various ‘fees’, third party services or certification. The intent is wholly fraudulent and once money has been sent, the writer or illustrator is then ghosted by the fraudsters.

Scholastic does not work with any creator in this way and never seeks payment from a creator – neither do we require outside third-party services as a gatekeeper for consideration of a manuscript.
We have become aware of fraudsters using close imitations of the Scholastic name and branding to offer services and fake ‘agreements’ for representation and publication of creator’s works. Scholastic employees in the UK only transact business exclusively from their official @scholastic.co.uk domain (scholastic.com in the US). Emails that purport to be from Scholastic but do not use the official domain should not be trusted.
